SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME HOLDS FOR USERS OF THE AUTOMATED GRADUATING STUDENTS’ CLEARANCE AS LASU FLAGS-OFF INNOVATION

The Directorate of Information, Communication and Technology in conjunction with the Examinations and Records Division on Friday, 17th September, 2021 organized a sensitisation programme on the newly developed Graduating Students Online Clearance portal for the relevant officials of the University in charge of the process. The exercise which took place at the Senate Chamber, Babatunde Fashola Senate Building, main campus Ojo and marked the official flag off of the process.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, and Chairman of the event, Prof Wahab Elias, in his remarks averred that the online Clearance exercise for graduating students has come to stay in the university, assuring of the management’s support: “We will mobilize and empower people in charge of this exercise to perform better.

With this innovation we can increase the IGR, reduce expenditure, and block leakages. This online clearance will open the door for our graduating students to be able to print their statements of results and certificates anywhere in the world, in future.”

The Deputy Registrar, Exams and Records, Mr Olabode Akinrinmade, in his opening remark stated that the idea of the Online Clearance started from the department of Computer Science in 2019. “The old way of clearing students involved so many irregularities and extortion but with this innovation this will stop. This exercise on the portal covers all categories of students, degree, sub degrees, and part time students”, he assured.

He further reiterated that resources should be made available for desk officers throughout the year as the exercise is all year round, noting that “this exercise will be a great relief for the Exams and Records Division as the end users as the idea of paperless administration is now going fully into effect. Moving forward, we will have little or no paper generated for this process.

He implored the management team, representative of the students and the users to give this exercise serious attention that it deserves.

The Acting Director, Directorate of Information, Communication and Technology, Dr Toyin Enikuomehin, in his presentation assured support from the DICT, noting that the Directorate is ready to provide both technical and advisory support for the clearance. “If we all connect together this process will be easy and seamless”, Dr. Enikuomehin said.

The flag off of the exercise also had in attendance the Acting Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Acting Dean, Students Affairs, Dr Tajudeen Olumoko, Ag. Director Internal Audit, Mrs Margaret Ogunkoya, Coordinator, Hardware Division of DICT, Prof. Oyefolu, Deputy Registrar, Students Affairs Division, Mr. Tosin Sadiq, Faculty Representatives, and other staff of Exams and Records Division, ICT and Students Affairs.

ASUU FACTION WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF NEW LASU VC

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Lagos State University (LASU) branch, has congratulated the institution’s newly appointed vice-chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello.

The union also commended the university’s joint council and senate selection committee for a smooth process.

In a press statement signed by the secretary, Tony Dansu, and his assistant, Adeolu Oyekan, the union urged the new vice-chancellor to address some of the problems that had confronted the university within the last five years.

The statement listed some of the issues to include alleged non-payment of academic allowances for 11 years; and “meddlesomeness in union affairs,” among others.

The statement reads in part; “We want to applaud the governing council and the senate for facilitating a non-rancorous selection process, as opposed to the botched and flawed exercises under the previous governing council.

“It is our hope that going forward, objectivity and due process, dispatched on forced sabbatical under the previous governing council and vice-chancellor, will be accorded their rightful place in the governance of the university.”

Commending the governor, who doubles as the visitor to the university, for the courage demonstrated in addressing alleged anomalies of the previous processes, the union pointed out that while the debacles generated were avoidable, the protracted corrective procedures are worth it.

“We urge the Visitor to take the reset process in the university to a logical conclusion by constituting the Visitation Panel he promised in May, as soon as possible.

“It is overdue statutorily, and necessary under the circumstance. We believe that a credible visitation, backed with the prompt implementation of its recommendations, will help the relatively new Governing Council and the new Vice-Chancellor to reposition the University for a more effective delivery of its mandate.

As is the practice of our Union, it shall continue to play its role as a partner in progress in the University, under the conditions of fairness, rule of law, accountability, and collegiality,” the statement added..
