The University of Ilorin Senate sets to approve the good standing list of students for 2019/20 academic session so as to ensure the upgrading of levels of students.

The 2020/21 academic session already started which lectures have commenced but most of the returning students portals have been upgraded to the next academic year as well as level, and none has been able to have access to their school fees portal and students registration.

This approval will allow for changes and activation of the students portal.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the death of five members of the scheme involved in a ghastly motor accident along the Abaji-Kwali expressway, on Wednesday, July 28.

According to a statement released by NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi, the sad incident occurred around 2pm

The deceased corps members are all said to be graduates of the University of Uyo and Akwa Ibom Poly. One of them has been identified as Miracle Asuquo.

The minimum requirements for admission into the Higher National Diploma are:

(i) National Diploma (ND) from Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori or other recognized and accredited Polytechnic, with a minimum grade of LOWER CREDIT in relevant discipline.

(ii) Possession of the entry requirement for the corresponding National Diploma (ND) Programme.

(iii) Possession of a credited one year Post National Diploma Industrial work Experience in approved Establishment, Industrial or a Business Organization.

(iv) In exceptional cases, ND Holders with a pass (CGPA of 2.00-2.49) in the ND examination with two or more years of cognate experience in the specific fields may be considered for admission into HND Programme.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it will meet with the Federal Government on Friday to avert another round of strike in federal universities.

The National President, ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, told our correspondent that the union was invited by the Ministry of Labour to discuss issues surrounding the Memorandum of Action, which was signed with the Federal Government in December 2020.

The PUNCH had reported on Wednesday that the spokesman for the Ministry of Education, Ben Gong, challenged the union to be more specific in its allegations that the government had violated agreements it reached with the union.

He pointed out that the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, which was developed by ASUU, could not deduct tax.

However, Osodeke, explained the last time the union met with the government was around March/April, adding that it was the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, who invited the officials to Friday’s meeting.

He said, “The Ministry of Education, which is our ministry, has not called us to any meeting since we signed the Memorandum of Action. But the Ministry of Labour, which is just an intervention ministry, around March/April called us to a meeting in which we discussed and they promised to implement all those things.

Three weeks ago, we met with the Minister of Labour, who said we should give him two weeks and he has finally invited us to a meeting on Friday. The spokesman for the Ministry of Education, Goon, has hatred for this union; he just pushes out lies withoutconsulting. Ask him when you see him, has the ministry ever invited us since the MoA was signed to say they have done this and couldn’t do that?”

Osodeke said ASUU never said it would go on strike, but was calling on the government to do the needful.

“I have not mentioned strike; what we have said is that we have issues, which the Federal Government has not resolved and I hope that they will resolve them before the next ASUU NEC meeting in August, where we will decide on what to do. I have not used the word strike. It is when NEC meets that we will decide on what to do, but it seems that the press and Nigerians always interpret it as a strike,” he added.

Eligibility

• To be eligible to take examinations leading to the award of JUPEB’s Direct Entry Certificates, the candidate must have been exposed to an intensive scheme of academic work relevant to his/her proposed university course.
• Each candidate must register, sit for Examinations and satisfy the Board in three subjects and a General Studies course relevant to the proposed course in any of the universities.
• Each subject is to be broken into four courses to be taken, two per semester, by the candidate. The results in all the courses are to be merged at the end of the second semester to obtain the candidate’s grade in that particular subject.
• Each candidate is expected to take twelve (12) courses, six per semester, and a General Studies course.
• The general Studies for courses in each University Faculty will be based on relevant General courses suggested for that Faculty by each university.
• The students upon completion of the programme will be issued certificates based on their level of performance which bear Letter Grades of A, B, C, D, E or F in each of the three subjects and General Studies Paper.
• For admission into each university, each candidate, in addition to passing the prescribed JUPEB examinations for issuing the Direct Entry Certificates, must satisfy all other conditions as prescribed by his/her university of choice.

Programme Description

• The programme is an intensive coaching curriculum aims at ensuring adequate exposure to the fundamentals of concepts and preparation of eligible students for University direct entry admission and a good head-start for University work. The courses of study which are those of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subject include Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Government, Account, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies, Economics, and History. Students are required to choose any three subjects. The certificate obtained by graduates of the programme will be tenable in several universities in Nigeria and in some foreign universities.
• Admission is based strictly on merit and entry requirements and in proportion to the admission quota of the University for the various Faculties.

Programme Duration

• The duration of the Programme of courses for the Board’s Examination is a minimum of one academic session of two semesters.

Entry Qualifications

• Applicants for admission into JUPEB Programme must possess a minimum of 5 Credits at maximum of two sittings in at least 5 subjects (inclusive of English Language) relevant to the candidates desired course of study in the University.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) wishes to inform intending candidates for WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021 – Second Series and other stakeholders, that the advertisement announcing the commencement of registration for the examination, which was published in the Daily Trust, Daily Sun and Vanguard

newspapers, as well as online social media, on Monday, July 26, 2021 is hereby withdrawn.

The advertisement is being withdrawn as a result of some developments surrounding the conduct of the examination which are being sorted out.

The new date for the commencement of registration for the examination will be released shortly

The Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Special Taskforce Unit on Wednesday, alerted students and members of the public on new techniques used by bandits and informants to kidnap members of the public for ransom

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday, issued by the head, Taskforce unit, Mallam Zubairu.

Zubairu said, “We have been informed about the latest kidnapping technique adopted by kidnappers in Kaduna State.”

“They (bandits) give out Sharon vehicles to some of their accomplices which are used to load passengers and deliver the innocent passengers directly to the kidnappers in bushes around our major highways.

“The reward is, if any driver delivers 2 trips of passengers to the kidnappers, the Sharon automatically belongs to him.”

The statement further advised members of the public to always apply caution when travelling through the Kaduna-Zaria, Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Kachia roads.

Do not travel when it’s late (evening or night) especially if u are going through the Kachia road or going to Abuja, make sure you board from a designated or government-approved motor park. ”

“Do not enter pick and drop vehicles, fill the passenger manifesto before you enter any car if it’s not provided. If non-available, ask for one or drop from the vehicle.

Try writing down or memorizing the registration number of any car you board (Sharon, Golf or Opel).

Recall that several passengers have been kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja road and those Kidnapped were forced to pay ransom or risk being killed.

The Senate on Tuesday reinstated Mr. Olatunbosun Odusanya, whose appointment as Registrar, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, was terminated by the institution’s council on April 25.

Odusanya, who made this known during an interview with newsmen, said that the committee also ordered the university to reinstate the sacked bursar, Mrs. Bolatito Akande, within seven days.

According to him, the Senate order reinstating him is confirmation he was wrongly sacked.

My appointment was wrongfully terminated. I petitioned the university chairman, Dr, Mohammed Yahuza, and the vice-chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, before the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

“The Senate looked at the petition and said that the allegations against me were not strong enough to sack me and consequently ordered the university authorities on Tuesday to reinstate me.

The Senate ordered that I, Olatunbosun Odusanya, should be reinstated as Registrar, while Mrs. Bolatito Akande should also be reinstated as bursar and ordered FUOYE to report back to them within seven days.

“What happened at the Senate on Tuesday is confirmation of the fact that I was wrongly sacked by the council. I am happy my request was granted,” he said.

Recall that the university council sacked Odusanya over allegations of misconduct and irregularities in appointments between 1st August 2020 and 10th February 2021, levelled against him.
