OSUN STATE INDEPENDENCE DAY ESSAY COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS IN THE STATE
The Osun State Government has announced an Essay Competition to mark the 2021 National Independence. The competition is for students from both Secondary Schools and Tertiary institutions in the state. SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Topic- “Using SWOT approach, discuss extensively Osun State 30th Anniversary and the future ahead: My Perspective”

TERTIARY STUDENTS
Topic- “Unveiling the security architecture and daunting challenges in all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria and proffer working solutions towards a peaceful, sustainable and indivisible Nigeria”
Submissions are open to students who are either citizens of Osun State or residents in Osun State.
The essay must not be less than 1,200 words for Secondary School Students and not less than 1,800 words for Tertiary Institution Students.
Entries must be submitted as attachments in Microsoft Word or PDF format ONLY
Detailed information of the entrants should be included at the beginning of the essay which must include, name contact address, name of school or institution, email address, phone number.
All entrants must attach their Local Government Identification Certificate and School Identity Card.
The deadline for the submission of all entries is Tuesday, 31st of August, 2021.

Nigerian Institute of Journalism Admission Requirements
1. National Diploma (ND)
- Five Credit passes in the WAEC or NECO Senior Secondary Certificate Examination or its equivalent in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
- Students’ enrolment and admission is through (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
- At the end of the course, successful candidates are awarded National Diploma.
2. Higher National Diploma (HND)
- Five Credit pass as it is for admission into National Diploma
- National Diploma in Mass Communication with minimum of Lower Credit from a recognised and NBTE-accredited institution.
- Evidence/Proof of a one-year mandatory Industrial Attachment.
- Admission is done directly by the Institution.
- At the end of the course, successful candidates are awarded Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication.
3. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD)
- The programme is separated into three specialised areas of Mass Communication:
- Print Journalism,
- Broadcast Journalism,
- Public Relations and Advertising
- The programme is designed to expose and equip the students with the fundamental principles and theoretical framework of Mass Communication practice.
Every student in all sequences apart from their professional courses, take these core courses:
- Foundation of Mass Communication,
- Theory of Mass Communication,
- Mass Media Law and Ethics,
- Mass Communication Research Methods;
- Communication for Development, Media Management and
Topical Issues in Mass Communication.

Internship
- At the end of each semester and session, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma students are sent on 4-6 weeks Internship with Media organisations for practical experience prior to their graduation. At the completion of their programmes, National Diploma students go on one year compulsory Industrial Attachment (Internship) while Post- Graduate students are sent on a 6-week Internship programme at the completion of their course work.
Deferment of Admission
- All candidates already offered admission may apply for deferment of admission for that session through the head of relevant department to the Registrar within six weeks of date of admission. The application must be supported with genuine reasons as well as documentary evidence where necessary.

ADVERTISEMENT FOR ADMISSION INTO LASU PRE-DEGREE STUDIES FOR 2021/2022 CALENDAR YEAR
1.0 PREAMBLE:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Lagos State University Pre–Degree Studies (PDS) Programme, which shall commence in October, 2021
The Programme shall run for One (1) Academic Session, beginning from October, 2021, to September, 2022. It is an intensive programme to prepare candidates with deficiency in their O’Level result to successfully resit for the Examination and also prepare them for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination [UTME] for admission into the 100 Level Degree programmes of Lagos State University.
The Programme is located at the Lagos State University, Epe Campus.
2.0 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
(a) Candidates must have Credits Pass in at least three (3) subjects (i. e. any of Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Government, Economics, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies (CRS) and Accounting) in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, GCE or NECO at NOT more than two (2) sittings.
(b) Candidates who meet the admission requirements will be invited for a written qualifying examination.
The subjects to be offered are:
1. Mathematics 2.English Language
3. Physics 4.Chemistry
5. Biology 6.Government
7. Economics 8.Literature in English
9. Christian Religious Studies (CRS) 10.Accounting
3.0 CRITERIA FOR TRANSITING TO 100 LEVEL:
For transition to 100 Level, each candidate is expected to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and also OBTAIN the minimum JAMB Cut Off Mark for the University Admission, as well as comply with the University Screening Test as may be prescribed.
In addition, all CANDIDATES with deficiencies in their O’level result are to REGISTER for WAEC and /or NECO, and are expected to pass all the relevant deficient subjects.
Successful Candidates are eligible to be allocated to the 100 Level Courses of related Faculties/Schools/College: Engineering, Science, Management Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, Law, Agriculture, Transport, Mass Communication, Nursing, Dentistry and College of Medicine, at the end of the Programme.
The PERFORMANCE of the current Pre-Degree Candidates in the 2020 UTME is as follows: above 200 (50.5%), 180-199(30%) and others (19.5%) respectively.
4.0 METHOD OF APPLICATION:
A. ONLINE PAYMENT
i. Prospective candidates should visit www.lasu.edu.ng and select MAKE PAYMENT option in the drop down list at the top, to make the required payment of Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000:00) only for the 2021/2022 LASU Pre – Degree Studies.
ii. After payment, Candidates should proceed to register online
5.0 CLOSING DATE:
Six (6) weeks from the date of this publication.
6.0 DATE FOR QUALIFYING EXAMINATION AND INTERVIEW:
The date for the Qualifying Examination and Interview for the Successful Candidates for the 2021/2022 Calendar Year, will be announced later.

LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY, (LASU) RELEASES POSTGRADUATE SUPPLEMENTARY ADMISSION FORM FOR 2020/2021 ACADEMIC SESSION

The Postgraduate School invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the under-listed postgraduate programmes at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, for the 2020/2021 academic session.
GENERAL REQUIREMENT
- The University requires five [ 5 ] CREDITS including English Language at Ordinary Level (GCE, WASC, SSCE, NECO and NABTEB) for ALL courses and credit in MATHEMATICS at Ordinary Level for SCIENCE, SOCIAL SCIENCES, MANAGEMENT SCIENCES.
FACULTY OF SCIENCE
Postgraduate Diploma in Pest and Environmental Management:
Admission Requirements:
The following categories would be admissible for the PGD PEM Programme:
- B.Sc degree with not less than Third [3rd] Class in Zoology, Agricultural Science, Fisheries, Biology, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology and any related discipline from the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
- A.B Ed degree in Biology of not less than Third [3rd] class from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University.
- Higher National Diploma [HND] in Environmental Studies Forestry, Health Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, Medical Science Laboratory Technology, and any other relevant course.
- Applicants must satisfy the Ordinary Level admission requirements as spelt out by the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination [UTME] for undergraduate Biology and related courses.
DURATION:
This programme will run for 2 [two] semesters.
FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES
Department of Management Technology:
M.Phil/Ph.D Project Management
- To qualify for admission into the M.Phil/Ph.D programme in Project Management, the candidate must possess or meet a combination of the following:
- M.Sc degree in Project Management, Project Management Technology, Production and Operations Management, Economics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics and other related courses of the Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University not lower than CGPA of 3.50;
- Five O’Level credits; to include English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two (2) sittings;
- Candidate must satisfy all other conditions as stated in the general regulation governing postgraduate degrees at the Lagos State University.
DURATION:
- For M.Phil/Ph.D candidates, the programme shall run for a minimum of eight ( semesters from the date of first registration;
- A period of study and research initially approved for the M.Phil/Ph.D may, following the M.Phil/Ph.D assessment and conversion be accepted as part of the period of study required for the Ph.D degree.
Ph.D Project Management.
- To qualify for admission into the Ph.D programme in Project Management, the candidate must possess or meet a combination of the following:
- M.Sc degree in Project Management or Production and Operation Management of Lagos State University or any other University recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University not lower than CGPA of 4.00;
- Candidate with MPhil degree in the discipline listed above with CGPA not lower than 4.00 may be admitted into the Ph.D programme;
- Five O’Level credits; to include English Languate and Mathematics, in not more than two (2) sittings;
- Candidate must satify all other conditions as stated in the general regulation governing postgraduate degree at the Lagos State University.
DURATION:
The Ph.D degree programme for all departments shall normally last not less than six [6] semesters from the date of first registration in the case of full-time registration and not less than eight [8] semesters for part-time registration;
- No candidate shall be granted part-time registration unless the faculty is satisfied that supervision will be effective throughout the period of studentship;
- The studentship of a Ph.D candidate shall lapse if after eight ( consecutive semesters of full-time study, or twelve (12) consecutive semesters of part-time study [or an equivalent period, pro-rata for a combination of part-time and full-time registration], a student has not presented himself/herself for the final and required Ph.D thesis oral examination.
FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE
Department Of Sociology:
1. Doctor of Social Work (DSW)
Admission Requirements:
- The criteria for admission into Doctor of Social Work [DSW] Professional Programme in Social Work shall be as follows:
- Meet the general matriculation requirements of admission into Nigerian universities, including English Language and Mathematics. However, matured candidates with not less than ten (10) years of professional working experience but with deficiency in O’Level Mathematics requirement may be considered for registration.
- First degree in Sociology or other Social Sciences or Humanities [minimum of second class lower of Lagos State University or any other university recognized by the Senate of Lagos State University, Higher National Diploma [HND] with minimum of lower credit in cognate disciplines.
- Possess Master’s degree in Social Work with a CGPA of at least 3.0 on a 5.0 point scale or M.Sc degree in cognate department from Lagos State University or any other University recognized by LASU Senate.
- Any other requirements in addition to [i], [ii] and [iii] above as may be approved by the Senate of Lagos State University.
Areas of Specialization:
- Candidates can specialize in any of the areas of Social Work interest as listed below:
- Medical and Public Health Social Work;
- Community Development Social Work;
- Industrial Social Work Administration and Welfare Management;
- Social Work and Ageing;
- Gender and Empowerment Studies;
- Child and Family Social Work;
- Youth and Development Social Work;
- Rehabilitation and Institutional Social Work;
- School/Educational Social Work.
DURATION:
- Full-Time: A minimum of 6 [six] semesters and a maximum of 10 [ten] semesters.
- Part-Time: A minimum of 8 [eight] semesters and a maximum of 12 [twelve] semesters.
- For extension beyond the specified maximum period, a special permission of the Board of School of Postgraduate Studies shall be required.
Master in Criminology and Security Studies [MCSS]
Admission Requirements:
- The criteria for admission into Master in Criminology and Security Studies [MCSS] Professional Programme shall be as follows:
- Meet the general matriculation requirements of admission into Nigerian universities, including English Language and Mathematics. However, matured candidates with not less than 10 years of professional working experience but with deficiency in O’Level Mathematics requirement may be considered for registration.

METHOD OF APLICATION
- Applicants are required to pay the sum of Twenty Five Thousand Three Hundred Naira (N25,300.00) non-refundable application fee into LASU Account online.
- All applicants shall be required to sit for a qualifying Entrance Examination on the Main Campus.

CLOSING DATE
- Sale of application forms will be closed four (4) weeks from the date of this publication.
- Application forms for all programmes should be submitted on-line and a copy of the e-Registration slip printed out by the applicant.
NOTE
1. Candidates who have not completed the National Youth Service Corps assignment or their current Postgraduate Programmes need not apply.
2. All academic transcripts must be received latest (2)two weeks after the close of sale of forms.
3. Request for transfer of processed application forms from one Department to another will not be entertained.
4. Candidates must personally attend the selection and written examinations as make-up test will not be conducted.
