Changes In Date Of Graduation, Courses Will No Longer Be Effected On Certificate – NYSC
The management of the National Youth Service Corps has announced the decision to henceforth include the course of study and date of graduation on NYSC Certificate of National Service and Certificate of Exemption.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the NYSC Director, Corps Mobilization, Mrs Ango V. on behalf of the Director-General of the scheme, Brigadier Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim.
She said the decision was in line with the management’s resolve to standardize records and it will kickstart with the 2021 Batch ‘A’ service year.
I am directed to remind you that, management has approved the inclusion of Course of Study and Date of Graduation on NYSC Certificate of National Service, and Certificate of Exemption.
“This decision is in line with earlier resolve to standardize records and will take effect from the 2021 Batch “A” Service Year which commenced in March 2021.
“You are to note that, in order to avoid deviation from Senate/Academic Board Approved uploads, request for changes in date of graduation and Courses of study would no longer be entertained.
“Kindly give this circular the widest publicity it deserves.
Please, accept the assurances of the Director-General’s warm regard,” Mrs Ango said

Kano To Make NIN Compulsory For Students’ Examination
The Kano State Government on Friday said the National Identification Number would be compulsory for students of public secondary schools in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Sanusi Saidu-Kiru, gave the directive in a statement issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the education ministry, Aliyu Yusuf.
Saidu-Kiru said the staff of the NIMC would soon begin the NIN registration across the schools in the state and warned that pupils would not be registered for examinations without obtaining their NIN.
He said the process would enable the education ministry to have an updated database of all pupils for the purpose of record keeping and further planning and eradicate examination malpractice in the state’s education system.
He also asked the Kano State Senior Schools Management Board, zonal directors and principals to ensure strict adherence to the directive.
The statement read in part, “Forms will be distributed to all secondary schools for the pupils from JSS 1 to SS2 to provide their personal details, which will also be used by the National Identity Management Commission.
“The details will then be kept by the ministry for the purpose of documentation.”

UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, (UI) PREPARED TO TACKLE COVID-19 THIRD WAVE, WARNS AGAINST LAXITY IN USE OF FACEMASK
Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Adebola Ekanola, on Friday said less than 10 deaths were recorded from people in the university due to the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed concern that people are taking the infection for granted.
Professor Ekanola, speaking during a virtual meeting of deans and heads of the departments of university organised by the University of Ibadan COVID-19 emergency response team, said that there had been a lot of laxity on personal protective measures because many assumed that they are safe from the infection.
He stated that although the university so far was lucky not to have been badly affected by the pandemic, he said students and staff of the institution needed to take charge and be responsive to ensuring no COVID-19 case is recorded in the university.
According to him, the risk of the pandemic is higher than when the academic session started and so, individuals’ health should be prioritised above other pursuits of life.
Professor Ekanola said that a task force to emphasise and encourage high compliance of students and staff of the university to wear face masks, ensure hand washing and social distancing is to start work in the school.
Head, Department of Virology, Professor Georgina Odaibo, stated that tests done at the University’s Department of Virology indicated that positivity rate had gone up from about 1.5 per cent in April, 2.8 per cent in May, 12 per cent by June ending and 16 per cent in July.
Professor Odaibo said if protective measures were not in place, the infection could spread to the university.
Director, University of Ibadan Health Services, Dr Aderonke Ajav, said that ensuring health is a collective efforts of all, adding that compliance with COVID-19 protective protocol is only ensured currently in the religious centres within university.
Coordinator, UI COVID-19 emergency response committee, Professor Victoria Adetunji, said the enlightenment programme became imperative because of the detection of delta variant of the virus in Nigeria, the steep increase in daily cases in Nigeria since July; increasing positivity rate for the infection and the potential third wave of the infection at the University of Lagos.

Devise Other Means Of Industrial Action, Not Strikes, Governor Urges ASUU
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to deploy better ways of engaging the Federal government than the perennial strikes it often embarks on to press its demands.
Governor Tambuwal made the plea while receiving the new executives of the Sokoto State University chapter of the union on Thursday.
He appealed to the union to develop some skills of negotiations geared towards arriving at consensus and common ground between it and governments at various levels other than the strike.
Tambuwal said strike affects the general economy the well-being of the university, states, and the country at large.
While congratulating the immediate past executives of the union for their exemplary leadership, he implored their successors to embrace peaceful dialogue, engagement, and negotiation between the union, the university management, and state government in whatever issue that might come up going forward.
”it is not about confrontation. It is not about fighting. We all have common objectives, which is the improvement of the standard of education at all levels in the state,” he added, emphasizing that since that is the case both the government and ASUU shouldn’t work at cross purposes that will only result in truncation of the development of education
