The management of the University of Nigeria Nsukka has expelled two students over examination malpractice (impersonation to be exact).

This was made known in a memo from the University’s Registrar.

The memo partly reads:

This is to inform you that Senate, at its 407th Meeting held on Wednesday 30th June 2021, considered its paper 405/17 which contained the recommendations of its examination malpractice committee, and approved that the underlisted two students should be expelled from the university having been found guilty of impersonation under Category “A: offence, in line with Chapter 3.9 of the Undergraduate Academic Regulations.

They are:

• Okorie, Success (2015/203688) – Department of Political Science
• Oparaeke Akwaugo (2016/231502) – Department of Sociology and Anthropology

You are requested to take action in line with the above decision of the Senate and inform all concerned accordingly

Summary of What Actually Happened:

• Success failed a course and asked Oparaeke to write it for her the next year. Unfortunately, Oparaeke was caught. The issue was sent to the disciplinary committee and they were bought expelled from the University.
• When the expulsion decision was taken, Oparaeke was in her final year while Success had an extra year.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has returned N2,000,000,000:00 to the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund from the excess generated from its operation during the conduct of 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) examinations.

The board said the N2 billion retuned to the government coffers was an interim remittance, meaning more returns may be made at the end of the board’s activities before the end of the year.

The figure was obtained from the board’s Weekly Bulletin for this month and was confirmed yesterday in Abuja by the Head of Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

A total of 1,338,687 candidates registered for the 2021 UTME, while 75,328 registered for the DE.

The examinations took place in June in 757 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

Last year, the board, under the leadership of the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, returned N7 billion to the government coffers at the end of the conduct of UTME/DE.

Over 1.9 million candidates registered for the examination.

With the introduction of the National Identity Number (NIN) in the registration of candidates for this year’s examination, the number of registered candidates dropped.

Benjamin said: “We have returned N2 billion to the government coffers in the interim; meaning that that is not all, as something will be remitted again.

We have forecasted and seen that we also have excess but we have not finished what we are doing. So far, we are giving this pending when we will finish our operations. Then, we will know what we will give for the year.

“Once we do policy meeting and 2021/2022 admissions start, then we will know that we have finished our activities for the year. At that point, we can close our eyes and remit whatever is left.”

AMIDST rising waves of insecurity in the country, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said it has prepared well to hold the forthcoming school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The examination is billed to commence on August 16 and last for about six weeks with no fewer than 1.6 million students expected to participate nationwide.

Giving the assurance in an interview with Nigerian Tribune at the weekend, the acting head of WAEC Nigeria, Mr Demianus Ojijeogu, said at the moment, the council does not foresee any reason the exam would not be held in any state.

He said though the council is well aware of the serious security challenges, particularly in some states in the northern part of the country, all hands would be on deck to ensure the examination is conducted in a safe and friendly environment across the country.

He explained that in the states where some schools have been closed down due to security issues, students of those schools have already registered in nearby schools that are in session.

Speaking on examination malpractice, Ojijeogu warned candidates and parents as well as schools that have plans to cheat in the exam to have a rethink as the council would not give room for such an act in any of its centres.

He also warned them to be wary of fraudsters who may claim to have leaked question papers of various subjects and may want to sell them through social media platforms ahead of exam, saying there is nothing like leaked question papers in WASSCE.

He said it is only a trick to defraud lazy students of their parents’ hard-earned money. Ojijeogu said the only appeal the council would make again is for every candidate to study hard and according to the schemes of work as no question would be asked outside the syllabus.

He said whoever is caught cheating or attempting to cheat or aiding malpractice in any form would certainly face the wrath of the law.

He, however, pointed out that the exam would be conducted under strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.

General Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences (EkoUNIMED) admission is opened to both Direct Entry (200 Level) and UTME (100 Level) candidates through the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Admission shall be open to all candidates with the requisite qualifications irrespective of race, gender, creed, geographical location and ethnic background.

ELIGIBILITY

i) Candidates must have sat for the current year Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and attained the prescribed cut-off marks as a statutory requirement for entry into Nigerian Universities.

ii) Applicants are strongly advised to ensure that their UTME subject combination qualifies them for their chosen programme in Baze University.

iii) Candidates who did not select Baze University while registering for the 2021 JAMB UTME, but wishes to be admitted into Baze are advised to first change their 1st choice Institution to Baze University at any JAMB Office or any JAMB certified Cyber Café, then follow the instructions above.

iv) In addition to the above, Baze University conducts a Post UTME Screening Exercise for all candidates seeking admission into the University. Applicants may however, not be admitted without fulfilling the demands of the screening exercise.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum entry requirements for admission into Landmark University are credit passes in 5 subjects at the SSCE/GCE O’ Level/NECO/NABTEB or its equivalent obtained at not more than two sittings. The subjects passed must include English Language, Mathematics and other subjects relevant to the proposed course of study.

When to apply

Baze University does not use application deadlines. This means that you can apply for admission all the time. Before you start your application, you need to ensure that your application and all supporting documents are ready.

Applying to more than one course

You can submit multiple applications to different courses, but please do not accept any offer until you have received a decision from all the programmes you have applied for. When you have received all decisions from the university please make sure you accept only one offer as soon as possible.

No supporting documentation is required during the application process.

When you receive an offer and wish to register for the offer, then you need to provide all your supporting documents during registration.

And finally, make sure when you are filling the form, you use accurate information because we will use that information when making a decision as it regards your application. Please note, when we realize that you used inaccurate or fraudulent information during your application process, Baze University has the right to withdraw it’s offer of admission.

Accommodation

While many of Baze’s students are housed in the wide range of accommodation provided by Baze University’s Accommodation Office, applicant can choose not to stay in the hostel.

Submitting your application

Assessment of your application

You will receive an email notification from the Undergraduate Admissions office once your application has been sent to the department for assessment. Usually this notification is sent within a few working days. Whilst the department will start to assess your application once you have completed and submitted the application form, you may be requested to submit additional documents for your application to be fully assessed and a final decision to be made.
