The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Monday said the cut-off mark for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination candidates was arrived at after a deliberation with all higher institutions in the country.

The organisation also said candidates with a score less than 200 in the 2020 UTME should not expect admission to Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan, Covenant University, University of Lagos and University of Benin.

JAMB also said no candidate with a UTME score of 209 could be considered for admission into any programme at the Pan Atlantic University, which had fixed its minimum UTME score at 210.

The spokesperson of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said this on Monday in a statement titled, ‘No uniform UTME minimum score for admission,’ in Abuja.

He said, “For long, many candidates and some members of the general public have come under erroneous impression that there is a minimum national UTME score, which they also refer to as cut -off point.

“The truth is that there is no one particular national minimum UTME score for all universities, polytechnics or colleges of education in Nigeria. It has never been. Similarly, in most cases, UTME score is not the sole determinant of placement of candidates into tertiary institutions

The Ondo State Government has affirmed its recognition of Com. Ayoade Kikiowo, AY-Original as the President of the National Association of Ondo State Students.

In a statement made available to our correspondent and signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Youth and Students’ Affairs, Hon. Muyiwa Ogunyemi, the affirmation was part of the resolutions of a conciliatory meeting to resolve the crisis that rocked the Association.

The meeting which held on Monday also had in attendance Special Assistants on Youth Mobilization, Mr Adebiyi Mayowa; Prince Dapo Adepoju and Gbologe Olufunmi Alex from North, Central and South respectively.

Recall that the crisis that rocked the Association had started when the Legislative arm claimed to have received petitions of gross misconduct on the President.

It was later said that the Senate President of the Association, Sen. Joshua Akindoyo without a plenary sitting to hear the petition singlehandedly constituted an investigative committee.

The committee chaired by Sen. Ayanuola Funmilayo was said to have submitted its report to the parliament according to the contentious plenary session that held via zoom on June 18.

A statement by the parliamentary arm later that day announced the impeachment of the President by the 63 senators of the Association.

However, this has been rebuffed by some Senators who claimed that the zoom meeting only recorded the highest attendance of 27 members, which does not form the required quorum for such meeting to hold.

Also, Sen. Olugbemiro Oluwatobiloba of Adeyemi College of Education had denied raising an impeachment motion at the zoom meeting.

“Mr Senate President ask a Senator to adopt a report, which I did,” Sen. Olugbemiro said.

“I didn’t move any motion against anybody particularly to impeach,” he added.

In a statement by Com. Kikiowo expressing his disappointments, he revealed that he exhausted all means possible to reach an amicable solution.

“This whole drama, ab initio, was to distract our administration from charging out to achieve its goals especially at this point in time.

“Even after I denied these allegations, I made several moves to reach amicable settlements with the aggrieved parties, just in my bid to ensure that the house is united going forward.

“We had our first meeting with the SSA last month and we concluded on certain resolutions that I chose not to challenge just for peace to reign. I played my part according to the resolutions by dissolving appointees to my office which they had complained about.

“Unfortunately, they still went ahead to conduct the unconstitutional plenary session on zoom where they claimed to have impeached me.

“On reverting to the SSA, he called for the second meeting and the resolutions are what we have now.”

Com. Kikiowo also disclosed that after quashing these distractions, it is time to once again focus on executing the plans of the leadership of the Association.

Com. Kikiowo also stated that he would address members of the Association and the public soonest.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has enjoined all relevant agencies to recognize Com. Ayoade Kikiowo as President and accord to him regards of the office.

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Education has rolled out conditionalities schools and learning institutions in the country must meet before they could be allowed to reopen.

The conditionalities are contained in a 36-page document submitted to the Senate by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu for their Information.

The document is titled: “Guidelines for schools and learning facilities reopening after COVID-19 pandemic closure.”

The Minister in his forward to the document described the conditionalities as key strategies for implementing safe, efficient, and equitable plans for school reopening and operations.

He noted that “given that COVID-19 may be with us for a while, the guidelines also highlight the urgent need to maintain and improve upon distance learning programmes.”

He added that the guidelines were drafted in close coordination with health, environmental, education, and school safety experts who were tasked with the responsibility of charting a pathway for safely reopening schools and learning facilities for quality teaching and learning.

A major plank of the conditionalities is that schools must “create immediate temporary” COVID-19 “isolation space” before they can be considered to reopen.

Schools are also mandated to “ensure establishment of a School COVID-19 Referral System including protocols and procedures to take if learners, teachers, administrators and other education personnel become unwell while in schools.”

Schools are also to establish and adequately equip dispensaries and clinics as appropriate

The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, have restated their commitment to partner with the Osun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on the University’s plan to have an accredited driving school and licensing office for the benefit of the entire University Community and its environs.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, made this affirmation in his welcome address to the new Sector Commander, Mr. Abayomi Emmanuel Asaniyan, who was in the University on a familiarization visit, having been just seconded to the state.

Professor Ogunbodede, who lamented that a lot fake driver’s licenses are in circulation, noted that the University is ready to have a licensing office on campus to cater for the need of the University Community, adding that an office space has already been set aside for its take-off as soon as FRSC, Osun State Command is ready to take it over and commence operation.

The Vice-Chancellor further stated that alongside the licensing office, the University desires an accredited driving school where proper and safe driving would be taught. According to him, the idea of the driving school, initially, is to benefit students of the Faculty of Agriculture to enable them learn how to drive tractors which are integral components of mechanized agro-business.
He expressed delight at the visit of the new Sector Commander to the University, stressing that his administration would support the FRSC in all of its activities towards making Nigerian roads free of mishaps.

Ogunbodede also hinted that OAU has all it would take to host an Annual Road Safety Week on campus. In his words: “We have everything it takes to organise the Road Safety Week on campus. We are to collaborate with the FRSC on this and any other programme that the University can participate in”.

Earlier, the Sector Commander, Mr. Abayomi Asaniyan had informed the Vice-Chancellor that he chose to follow the footprints of his predecessors who visited the University to introduce themselves to the University administration and seek support for the programmes of the Sector.

The new Sector helms-man reiterated that the courtesy visit is like a home-coming for him: “I am back home. I am a friend, classmate and brother of the Vice-Chancellor. In fact, we are from the same place”, he stated.

Mr. Asaniyan said very soon, the driving school and licensing office requested by the University would take-off. He disclosed that establishing such is not a new thing to him as he set up similar driving school at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. He commended the Vice-Chancellor for his style of administration which has endeared him to all stakeholders, particularly the Alumni of the University, noting that his transparency, honest and commitment to the ideals and vision of the founding-fathers of the University, distinguishes him.

While charging the Vice-Chancellor to remain unperturbed by the challenges associated with administering a University Community of OAU’s size and status, he called on all lovers of education to rally round the present University Administration so that together they can move the Institution forward.

ELIGIBILITY FOR UNIUYO POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION

1. To qualify for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme, applicants should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other University recognized by the Senate of the University of Uyo, or persons who hold qualifications adjudged by the Senate of the University of Uyo to be equivalent to first degree or holders of recognized Higher National
2. To qualify for admission into a Master’s degree programme, applicants should be graduates with not less than Second Class Honours degrees in the Lower Division with, (a) CGPA of 75 on a five-point scale, (b) CGPA of 2.2 points on a four-points scale and (c) Second Class lower division (irrespective of CGPA) for the Master’s degree programme in Architecture and programmes in the Faculty of Agriculture. (d) Candidates for admission into M.Sc Medical Microbiology should be graduates of either of the following: (i) Microbiology with 2.75 CGPA (ii) Virology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology (PGDM) (iii) MBBCh/MBBS or its equivalent.
3. Applicants for admission into Doctoral Degree programmes should be graduates of the University of Uyo or any other University recognised by the Senate of the University of Uyo, who possess Master’s degrees with dissertation and course work average, which should not be less than 60% (B).
