Bowen University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates (UTME & Direct Entry) for admission into its degree programmes for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Bowen University Admission General Entry Requirement.
(i) UTME

i. All applicants are required to sit for 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
ii. All applicants are required to have credits at SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or approved equivalent in at least five (5) subjects, which must include English Language and four other subjects as may be specified by each Faculty.
iii. The five credits should be obtained at not more than two sittings.
iv. For Medicine and Surgery (MB; BS), Nursing Science and Physiotherapy programmes, the five credits (including Mathematics and English) must be obtained at only one sitting and NABTEB is not acceptable.
v. Candidates awaiting results may apply.
vi. All applicants will be required to go through Bowen University Screening Exercise.

Applicants are to complete the University Application forms.
Interested candidates who have applied to JAMB for admission and wish to change their choice of institution to Bowen University are required to:
A. Apply for change of institution through JAMB.
B. Complete the Bowen University Application Form.
C. Participate in the Bowen screening exercise.

(ii) DIRECT ENTRY

All applicants for direct entry must satisfy any of the following:
NCE at credit level, ND and approved equivalents with at least Lower Credit in relevant fields.
At least two Advanced Level passes at acceptable grade level.
The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB),Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) or Cambridge moderated School of Basic Studies at acceptable grade levels.
In addition to NCE/ND/IJMB, JUPEB or two Advanced Level papers specified by each Faculty or programme, candidates must also satisfy the Ordinary Level requirements.
HND holders may be admitted to 200 Level or 300 Level depending on the regulation guiding admission into each department / programme.
All direct entry candidates are required to apply through JAMB.

To complete the on-line application form:

1. Visit Bowen University website www.bowenuniversity.edu.ng and follow the procedure:
2. Click on “Apply Now” under the UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION sub menu. This takes you to the admission guide. Go through it and click on “CLICK HERE TO APPLY” at the bottom of the page to create an identity (Pre-Registration).
3. After the pre-registration, generate a payment invoice with your unique transaction ID for the sum of Ten thousand, three hundred Naira (N10, 300) only as application form fee.
4. Then, proceed to Quick Teller page to make payment online.
Payment for on-line forms through Banks – After generating a unique transaction ID through the University website, applicants may proceed to any of the following banks with their transaction ID to make payments: Sterling Bank, Unity Bank, Wema Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA).
5. Upon confirmation of payment, proceed to the School Admission page “eportal.bowenuniversity.edu.ng/apply to log in using your already created username and password in order to complete and submit the application form.
6. Upon successful submission, print out your acknowledgment card and profile.

(b) Off-line Application Forms

Application Forms may be obtained from any of the sales centres indicated below upon the presentation of a non-refundable application fee of N 10,000.00 (Ten thousand naira) only in bank draft payable to Bowen University. Candidates must indicate their names and addresses at the back of the Bank draft.
Applicants are expected to submit their application forms on the screening day.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made it compulsory that O’level results and Advanced level results (For Direct Entry) of all the candidates recommended for admission by any institutions must undergo verification by JAMB before such candidates can be offered admission.

This means that when a candidate is recommended for admission by any institution, JAMB will verify if the person actually has the O’level requirement for that course of study. Candidates will no longer be recommended for admission just by what they scored in JAMB exam

This equally means that whatever O’level result or Advanced level result (for Direct Entry candidates) you submitted during JAMB registration, Post-UTME registration, or screening will be verified by JAMB before admission will be offered to you.

This is to ensure that only candidates with the right O’level results and O’level subject combination for their intended course of study will be admitted to study that course. So if you do not have credit passes in the required O’level subjects for your intended course of study, there will be no admission for you into that course.

The implication of this is that even if your school of choice admits you when JAMB has not approved your admission, that admission will not be officially recognized. It is an illegal admission and you will definitely have issues in the future with such admission.

For instance, you will be unable to go for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) because only candidates whose admissions were approved by JAMB will be able to register for NYSC.

And don’t forget that with the newly introduces Central Admission Processing System, it will be very easy to identify candidates whose admissions are illegal or whose admissions were not officially approved by JAMB.
Candidates are therefore advised to ensure that their O’level results are uploaded on the JAMB portal. This will enable their schools of choice to recommend them for admission and give them a better chance of being offered admission if they meet the needed requirements.

The National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria has asked the Federal Government to reopen schools nationwide, first to pupils who will be sitting external examinations by bodies such as the West African Examinations Council and the National Examinations Council.

The NAPTAN National President, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, said in an interview with one of our correspondents said the government could provide safety medical equipment in schools.

Danjuma noted that the association had resolved to put measures in place such as the provision of face masks, hand-washing containers in schools, and hand sanitisers to minimise the infection risk among school children.

He said, “We, parents’ association, are bothered about this stay-at-home order as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has disrupted the calendar and academically affected all our children – particularly those graduating at the Junior Secondary School 3 and Senior Secondary School 3 levels.

“You know, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has already conducted this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and some of our children sat for it with awaiting O’Level results. They hoped by June and July, the West African Examinations Council and the National Examinations Council would have conducted their exams too.”
